Ring of Brodghar on the Orkney islands off the north coast of Scotland, a wonderfully ancient place with a great many Neolithic sites, many more underground than they have been able to excavate to date. This one is slightly older than Stonehenge, the one in the south of England that everyone has heard of, estimated at 5000 years but the stones themselves are not as mammoth, being sandstone (rather than granite) hauled from the ocean beaches that surround parts of the islands. Originally there probably were twice as many stones that were part of the circle.
