‘Know yourself’ - Socrates (possibly paraphrased)
These paintings are a celebration of the feminine. You’ll find the contrast of subtle, calm delicacy with bold and passionate power all unafraid of being seen. Accidents are welcomed as part of the whole picture. Underlying the intent is a call to action: be yourself. Live your life as YOU.
The success and resulting exciting images evolve by trusting the process as a dynamic concept. Not overthinking. Translating inner perception and understanding into action.
As a society, we are obsessed with how we appear to others. We project ourselves through our collected materials and possessions to the point where we almost become them. Whatever the current fashion might be, it provides an outer layer through which to project and present oneself in a specific way. In the Gown Series, I removed the human image completely and focused on the energy that shapes emotions, wishes, dreams, and imaginations. The accoutrements, passion and vitality that enmesh with human desire are presented again and again in distinctive visual poems created with thick paint, enthusiastic motion and found fragments.
“Everything is energy and that’s all there is to it.” Albert Einstein
