David Goyette
David Goyette is an artist from Lakefield Ontario who was selected as the Peterborough Examiner Readers’ Choice Gold Winner for Favourite Local Artist in 2024.
A writer, he has published five books and has been recognized by the Canadian Scholars Press. A guitarist, teacher and songwriter, he has recorded three CDs of his own music. A former Director of the Royal Conservatory of Music, his recordings have been praised by The Beatles’ producer Sir George Martin.
David has been widely recognized in his community. He has been both a finalist and the winner of a Peterborough Arts Award in the category of Arts Champion. He is one of the few artists to have been inducted into the Peterborough and District Pathway of Fame. He was named a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International. He is the former Chair of Showplace Performance Centre, where both the David Goyette Green Room and the David Goyette Stage are named after him.
David’s painting is influenced primarily from the New York school of abstract expressionism of the 1950's and 1960's, and the practitioners of lyrical abstraction. His work features large scale abstract acrylic paintings that are influenced by graphic design and architecture. They celebrate the drama of colour, enabling expression of the seasonal, the momentary and the fanciful. His compositions offer a focus on the relationship between order and disorder and are intended to invite contemplation of the contradictions of daily experience.
