David Kerr

My name is David Kerr and I am an Ontario-based impressionist oil painter, specializing in nature and landscape scenes. Using palette knives, I paint with vibrant colours and thick textures. With each painting, I try to make people feel like they are within the scene, feeling the elements.

To find the sites that inspire me to paint, I often venture through lakes and rivers with my canoe or trek through the bush on foot to find the perfect scene.

My work is strongly influenced by the Group of Seven and Tom Thomson.

I’ve been painting all my life. Being a geologist and environmentalist has taken me to many remote areas, and has ultimately led me to a life of appreciation for our country. Time and again, I have been left in awe at the natural beauty of our land and this is what I strive to capture in my art.

I’ve worked with many different materials and subject matter in the past, but at the moment, I’m focused on scenes of the Canadian landscape using bright oils and sharp palette knife. For inspiration, I often take photos out in nature or work from archival photography depicting Canada’s past.
